Yes, a job with benefits

I don't have a 401 K.

Or medical insurances. Certainly not dental coverage.

As a nanny, my benefits package is sadly lacking in comparisons to most C.E.Os today. But to me, I feel as though I do get one thing through this job that no other person in the world would understand except mothers and other nannies.

The chance to be a kid again.

Yes, my job is tiring, frightening and frustrating....

But...

I get to hear kid's laugh [usually] everyday, I get to eat cherries (a rare treat when I was a kid), I get to go swimming and pretend I'm a mermaid, and I get to revisit old books that were like dear friends when I was a child.

The other day, Katie got A Cricket in Times Square. My squeal of delight matched hers. I "visited" New York through that book. It was a treasure, an escape for me.

And I get to read it to her.

Who needs medical coverage when you can be young again for a summer?
(well.....:P )

This calls to mind summer nights of chasing lightning bugs in Nina's yard, you climbing the tree in the front yard in your nightie, and reading by the front porch light till it was too dim to see anything. Guess I won't be surrendering summer yet!

Here, school starts today. I know it starts later in the East. What will you do when they go back to school?
