Live. Laugh. Learn. Love.
Tales of a naughty little Tom Sawyer and his sisters....trees and rolling hills in Arkansas and favorite pets filled my ears and I drove through Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey and New York in a large silver durango.
The beginning of the trip got off to an interesting start - as I had to finally come to a conclusion that I am a gal with just too much stuff. Not that I'm getting rid of any of it - strange resolve for a person who wanted to be a starving artist not to long ago. ;)Two durango loads would do it, but not one. For my dear fiance's sake, I consolidated - only taking my accessories, clothes, shoes, purses and books :P You know, what I need to survive! The rest we put in the storage in Urbana...an excuse to return sometime ;)
Two long days followed ~ sunlight streaming through the durango's windows, and crazy traffic sounds surrounded us at all times. We left our mark on various diners and restaurants, eating well, being content,, and laughing at life.
Looooong naps....I was curled up against two suitcases...sometimes Alex was my pillow. No arguments.
The two ipods in the car took turns...several generations of music were enjoyed - everything from Johnny Cash to Gwen Stefanie.
16 oz coffee cups became a regular sight in the car - two avid coffee drinkers were along for the ride....although I am trying to cut down. At every stop, all the passengers ran towards the bathroom. Road trips are regular things on the Sutterfield's agenda - they looked forward to each state we passed through and all that we saw.
Good company and good people make time go quickly. Soon, the NYC skyline was in front of us. Driving in a bit city has always made me nervous, but the Sutterfield's handled it well. Suzanne and Alex gave Cecil advice...all relying on the GPS system that we had in the car that Alex's parents have fondly nicknamed "Marilyn".
Marilyn and the prudent driving of Cecil got us through and now we're all settled in south hampton - yes, LONG ISLAND!!! We're at a beautiful hotel with a snobbish staff (we're in the hamptons, it's natural) and lovely surrounding neighborhoods that I plan to peruse during a run tomorrow. I'm just thankful to be here - around good friends, gorgeous architure, and exciting plans!
