Devoted kitty, a welcome distraction to homework? Check.
A small, yet splendid apartment only a few blocks from campus? Check.
The desire to sharpen the pencils, pull up the knee socks and learn? CHECK CHECK CHECK.
My first impression of the University of Arkansas: HILLY AND GRAND. It sits in it's comfortable little nook in Fayetteville Arkansas, a town of liberal minds and lively imaginations. It isn't a collection of staunch little ivy covered brick buildings circling a fountain or pound. Like the students that attend it, the university is unique and different, adding beauty to the town.
While taking an informal tour of campus, I rounded a group of trees and came upon a greek ampitheater. It took my breath away. Stark white against the sky, bleachers made up one side while thick, tall columns were the other. I was told this was a multi purpose venue, but I could already imagine Euripodes and Antigony being performed there.
Carved into the many sidewalks that wound around campu were the names of graduates of U of A, since the university's initial opening. I felt like I was unraveling a very long scroll as I walked through campus.
As I passed each bookstore, whose windows were decked out with large red letters shouting "Sale! 10% off all merchandise", I had to resist the impulse to go in and buy a notebook or some pencils. I always get this feeling when I'm in a college town, only it was more so here. Maybe that's the feeling you're supposed to get when you've found the school that's right for you. If there is such a rule - but then, I've never been to follow the rules. :)

Hey, Kate. Cool descriptions of everything. Really enjoy reading the blog. The HITH name is great, even if you are in Arkansas. I've got a couple of weeks off between works projects so I'm hoping to make some photos and post. See you guys soon.
