The Truck

While approaching Metropolitan Bank for a work errand on hwy 412, between Springdale and Tontitown, I noticed a patriotic, multi-colored truck stopped in the turning lane.
Looking closer, I saw a rosy cheeked women making her way across the busy lanes of traffic, a baby clutched in her left arm, and her right hand firmly wrapped around the older sister's hand.

We made it to the bank door at the same time, and seeing her extra load of arms and legs, I immediately held the door for her.

"Thanks," she breathed.

The bank staff had seen her coming. The Branch Manager came out and offered her the phone to call for assistance. The older sister stood up on one of the fancy oak chairs in front of the manger's desk and declared that the "car had broke."

The branch manager smiles at the girl and tried to engage her in conversation. The phone call was concluded and before commencing her work, the manager made sure that help was on its way for the mother and her children.

"Yeah, we're good."

I guess maybe situations happen like this all the time, everywhere. But I haven't seen a down to earth - good natured- no questions ask show of kindness like that in a long time. Makes me feel hopeful.
