She was a grinning and seemed to emit a sparkle when we encountered her.
Amanda, her husband Ryan and I were strolling around the Fayetteville Farmer's Market on Saturday. It's a relaxing way to spend a morning even if you don't buy anything - which I often don't. Okay, maybe a coffee. But it's organic. I'm sticking with the theme of the day.
Casually located on the corner of center and east street was a white van. Beside it sat a large loom made of dark, rich wood. Perched on a stool next to it, like a little bird, was a small, older woman. She worked nimbly and quickly, smiling and talking happily to passersby.
Her work was displayed on a nearby table - place mats, table runners and "mug rugs" (coasters). She was kind and affable and clearly skilled, by the looks of her wares. She told us that her customers can choose any color they want and if they don't like the outcome, she won't charge them.
I asked her if she found weaving relaxing. She laughed.
"Honey, I could do this all day. I very often do!"
