During an employee wide meeting yesterday, my boss informed all of us that our company (which is nation wide) is implementing a "work furlough" program. This means that in the next two months, all employees have to take a one week UNPAID vacation. The company hopes this will save money and eliminate the need for further layoffs.

It was a lot to take in. I don't make much anyway...but I have always thought of time as a gift. I can read, scrapbook, see friends...job hunt...appreciate the small, beautiful things in my life.

I know everything is going to be ok.

I do wish though, that people would give adm. assistants a break. My office often tells me how much they appreciate me, but others aren't so lucky. How great does a boss have it - getting a young, fresh faced kid, a couple of years out of college to come and do clerical work....sometimes more than other members of the office have to do - combined. Those "paper pushers" are hard workers - and deserve a pat on the back ;)
