Yesterday I listened to an interview on Fresh Air with Biz Stone, one of Twitter's co-founders. Sure, I enjoy using the site for posting funny comments or keeping up with friends that I might not otherwise touch base with, but I had no idea the impact that social media like Twitter is having on society. Protestors in Egypt used the site to announce their next activity. A Burkley photojournalism student used it to alert his friends of his arrest in a foreign country. Businesses and schools are using twitter more and more to reach out to the general public. Heck, Obama just sent his first tweet!
I will never be consider "tech savvy" but when I look at my own interactions...a lot of it is through texting, facebook, email and twitter....because "I'm so busy". I wrote a card last week but it was just a cute little message, not really conveying anything about me or what's going on in my life right now.
I guess maybe as such a tech and gaget oriented society, we need to slow down and TALK...and stop using the following as actual verbs: tweeting, facebooking, texting....hmmm...who knows what we could accomplish? :) :) :)
