Mid-day

I write a lot about morning and evening light. Rarely do I touch on the afternoon.

That's because in Arkansas, if you're smart - you stay indoors during from 11am-3pm. .

As soon as you step outside around lunch time, you are hit by a blinding ball of light.

Oh yes, that's the sun.

Lovely when viewed from afar, but difficult to contend with in close proximity.

Anything shiny becomes an instant weapon and rows of windows are just like a fire pit in a grill, the heat hitting you the hardest when the sun is directly overhead. I guess you could just sit in your house, with the curtains drawn, the door shut and the A.C. pumped up to full blast.

But where the fun in that? Arkan-sans have made peace with the humidity - they know when to take it on, full force, and when to give it an inch.

I've come to understand that any family living down here, can count one more member in into their plans. The weather.
