I ran my first 10K today. That feels awesome to say. I'm mean, sure, I've run 6.25 miles tons of times. On my own. Not in and around Rogers AR with at least 50 other people. All trying to get ahead of me.
My running buddy Sharon and I decided about a week ago to do this. How else would you want to spend your labor day morning? ;) The course was great - a mixture of hills and flat areas with Arkansas's beautiful scenery surrounding us. All participants of the 10K were given a chip to wear to track them and their time during the race. I love running but I'm not gonna lie - I was RELIEVED to see the finish line approaching as I ended the race.
I got a time of around 48 minutes - that's around 7.6 minutes a mile. I was pleased.I was even happier when, at the awards ceremony, they called my name for placing 3rd in my age group. Little Dominque Daas, three time Olympian was there to present the awards. She classed up the place in her cute little black dress - what a humorous contrast next to all the sweaty runners.
If you haven't ever run/walked a road race - give it a try. There is food, music and camaraderie between runners. I saw some familiar faces of people that I have seen at other races. There is no experience like it.Sharon and I are already planning our next 10K.....
