Lately, I feel like I have been pushing people away. Not my friends or family - but new people. Strangers who just say hi to me at the bus stop. Chatty cashiers. Friendly tellers at my bank.

Instead of lingering to talk or adding anything to the brief 20 second exchange, I grab my things and head on my way.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing to stay focused (and I'm not considering starting to talk to strangers now) but who knows? Instead of looking past a random stranger as I pass them on the sidewalk, I need to try smiling. It could change someone's day.
